Dell M. Hamilton Solo Exhibition – All Languages Welcomed HERE

January 14 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until February 8, 2019

“All Languages Welcomed Here” is Dell Marie Hamilton’s first solo exhibition which will include a solo performance, an artist talk as well as photo-based work and the debut of a new body of mixed-media work entitled “Punta: Pregunta”. Amongst the Garifuna people, Punta refers to a contemporary dance originated within the rich traditions of this West African and Amerindian Central American & Caribbean community. “Pregunta” in Spanish translates in English to the word “question.” Through the use of materials such as paint, thread, textile, tape, found paper, and the use of the body as both gesture and process, this work explores the entangled connections between personal obsession and familial history. With references to a wide-range of source materials including Gray’s Anatomy, weather forecasts as well as geographical maps, Punta: Pregunta delves into the question of what to do with the afterlives of trauma both experienced and imagined.
