Magick & Folklore in Film: Practical Magic
January 19 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree – $12
Join Enchanted for the first of an ongoing series of community film viewing and discussion events. Each month we will choose a film with themes revolving around witchcraft, magic, and the occult to be presented at Enchanted. The evening will be coupled with the serving of light snacks and beverages associated with the film being shown. For each film we will host a discussion lead by Matthew Venus and Justice Dubghaill, which will examine some of the magical themes and folklore presented in the film as well as where their real-world origins may be found in both modern and historical magic. Join us for what promises to be an exciting, humorous, and educational evening of movie magic.
Our first showing will be Practical Magic (1998), starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. A favorite movie among many in the witchcraft community, we’ve chosen Practical Magic to launch the series for this reason, but also specifically for its portrayal of modern witchcraft and magick. For this film, we anticipate a lively discussion around themes of generational witchcraft, love spells, baneful herbs, toad magic, necromancy, death omens, and many more relevant talking points. For refreshments, we will be serving Midnight Margaritas and silver dollar pancakes with whipped cream in the shape of a pentagram. Come for the movie, stay for the food, learn from the discussion.
Tickets (free for just the film, $12 for the film and the workshop/refreshments) available online.
