Two for Tuesday, May 16

We've reached the season when it feels like there are a million things to do in Salem all the time.  I'm going to help you focus the selection process by giving you two ideas, two events or programs or things to do, two places to start. These are two things we deem worthy of a drive that are happening this weekend in Salem.

If you don't like the two things I've picked, you have three options: 1) Explore the pages of to find the two things that appeal to you and your fellow travelers; 2) Check back next week, because I am going to post my Two for Tuesdays weekly; 3) Send your suggestions for one or two things you would travel to Salem for to  If I use your suggestion, we'll send you a Salem tote bag.

Two for Tuesday, May 16

Derby Square Flea Salvage Art Market Salem MA

1.  The weather forecast looks great for the first Derby Square Flea/Salvage/Art Market this weekend. Salem is all a'buzz about this new addition to downtown Salem.  This monthly pop-up market will feature vendors of vintage & up-cycled furniture & fashion; collectibles, antiques, architectural salvage; as well as jewelry, art, & handmade goods by local artisans. .

Auguste Rodin, Fugit Amor, about 1887. Plaster. Musée Rodin, Paris, S.2181.

2.  Rodin: Transforming Sculpture opened on May 14 at the Peabody Essex Museum, and you should go now before it slips away.  Special exhibits always feel like they will be here forever, and then, in a blink of an eye, they are gone. Alas, this remarkable collection of works by Rodin is a summer fling for Salem, here only until September 5.  Including The Thinker, Walking Man, The Kiss, and other remarkable sculptures drawings, this thematic exhibition highlights the drama and experimentation that have established Rodin as one of the greatest sculptors of all time.
