Dress and adornment are potent symbols of identity and powerful tools for connection.PEM’s collection of fashion and textile represents a geographic range across four centuries. From the everyday to the exceptional, with a focus on New England dressmakers and designers, explore what makes PEM’s clothing collection one of the most important in theUnited States. Following the lecture stay to try your hand at making individualized clothing labels. Materials will be provided. A video link will be emailed to all ticket purchasers after the event.

About the speaker: Petra Slinkard is the Director of Curatorial Affairs and The Nancy B. Putnam Curator of Fashion and Textiles at the Peabody Essex Museum.

Since 2012, the Americana Lecture Series has been Hamilton Hall’s celebration of the cultural heritage of the United States. These lectures are an opportunity for our community to view the past through a fresh lens,
and to draw new connections to our present.
