The Great Pumpkin Drop!
November 3 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Salem Alliance for the Environment (SAFE), SalemRecycles, and Black Earth Compost team up to bring you the 2nd annual GREAT PUMPKIN DROP — a community composting event!
On Sunday, November 3 from 12:00-3:00, bring your pumpkins to the parking lot of Dead Horse Beach (at Salem Willows), where Black Earth Compost will collect them for composting.
* TEST your skills at shooting your pumpkin through a basketball hoop. Yes, we’re serious!
* WIN a free, six-month subscription to curbside compost pickup, awarded to the first ten Salem households that aren’t current clients.
Why? Because composting is cool! Un-composted pumpkins don’t go to pumpkin heaven. Some end up in landfill, producing methane as they decompose, a greenhouse gas 21x more harmful then CO2. Some add unnecessary weight to our trash load, and are incinerated. Salem’s pumpkins deserve better! Composting turns food waste into rich nutrients for topsoil.
(Note: we can only collect pumpkins while Black Earth’s truck is present, Sunday 12-3. Pumpkins left behind outside those hours will be tossed out.)
