Join us to hear Heesoo Cho, the 2021 Frances E. Malamy Fellow at PEM’s Phillips Library and doctoral candidate in history at Washington University, present the findings of her research. Her project, Damaged Commodities Afloat: Maritime Ship Management in the Early American Republic, 1783-1820, explores how American merchants who financed the China and East Indies trade from the 1780s to the 1810s coped with material loss at sea.
