We Three Kings- Dr. Al Cummins Lecture & Booksigning
December 14, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$25
Integral to the story of the Christmas Nativity told each year are three learned pagan sorcerers, Caspar, Balthazar, and Melchior – considered variously also astrologers, priests, and, yes, kings – who traverse great distances from various foreign lands to bring their gifts. Both decidedly non-Christian Wise Men and necessary actors in the grand entrance of the Christ-Child, the Three Kings received substantial cultic veneration from the time of the very birth of Christendom throughout both the “Old World” and especially into the so-called “New World”.
Their cultus includes a substantial amount of operative sorcery as well as devotion. Specifically, the Magi have played an important role in both traditions of medieval grimoires and European folk magic: amongst other things, they are appealed to in spells and talismans for safe travel, for home and personal protection, for conjuring spirits, and as patrons of astrological magic.
In this class, professional diviner, consultant sorcerer, and historian of magic Dr Alexander Cummins will take us on a journey of our own throughout the history and magic of working with the Three Magi – as patrons of magicians, travelers, and the Yule – which will include practical tips on approaching these Three Kings, including discussion of common offerings, magical materia, and rites associated with them. Dr Cummins will also be signing copies of his newest publication, A Book of the Magi: Lore, Prayers and Spellcraft of the Three Holy Kings (Revelore Press, 2018), which goes into far more detail about the sorceries of these Three Wise Men.
Cost of class is $25 per person. Please pre-register. Call (978) 744-2492 for availability.
