About

Located in the Point Neighborhood, Punto Urban Art Museum is a beautiful open-air museum that features 75 large-scale murals by 30 world-renowned artists and 25 local artists, all within a three-block radius. Only a five-minute walk from downtown and free to explore, this museum believes that public art can strengthen communities and help break down invisible socio-economic barriers.

Special Exhibitions

Punto Urban Art Museum also offers an assortment of special exhibitions that you should check out.

A Dream Called Home – Inspired by award-winning, Mexican-American author Reyna Grande’s memoir, artists have painted murals in Salem to share their stories that reflect and/or connect with the life/home that communities of color continue to pursue in this country.

Muñecas Sin Rostro – The Faceless Dolls Project is a creative and educational arts initiative inspired by the traditional Faceless Dolls made by Liliana Mera Lime. You’re invited to create a unique, faceless doll to share an untold story about you or your family, honor women of the past and present, and celebrate BIPOC stories and culture.

The American Dream – Inspired by the ethos of the United States of America, this exhibit aims to provoke deeper conversations about the constant quest for a better life. As the meaning and attainability of this dream has been called into question in recent years, New England-based artists have been called on to use their creativity to develop murals based on their interpretation of “The American Dream.”

The Casa De Abuela Project

The latest art project set up by Punto Urban Art Museum, Casa de Abuela (Grandma’s House) is a replica of a typical Dominican country house. Within the four simple walls and sheltered by a tin roof, the main space within Casa de Abuela will reveal a realistic living room scene like a humble Dominican grandmother would reside in.
Casa de Abuela is meant to offer innovative opportunities to help engage the community, activate a community parcel, and create economic development.

Connected to the house will be an area reserved for pop-up cultural experiences, like a convenience store similar to what you would find in the Dominican Republic, and other elements will be added to the program over time. As a whole, Casa de Abuela acts as a physical space for visitors and residents to celebrate their culture, remember their roots through storytelling, and have opportunities to share various cultural foods.
