The latest immersive photo experience to arrive in Salem, Massachusetts by Grace & Diggs takes a look at Valentine’s Day from all angles. Whether you look forward to Valentine’s traditions with someone special, or the thought of February 14 gives you a rush of cynicism, Grace & Diggs has created a unique way to mark the occasion right in Salem’s Old Town Hall.
The all-new experience for 2022, Pink Roses, Wild Hearts will run January 29-February 14, and tickets are available in advance here.
Pink Roses, Wild Hearts is the latest handcrafted art installation by Linda Mullen, artist and owner of Grace & Diggs, offering three intricately designed settings offering memorable and creative backgrounds for Valentine’s Day photos. Like all of Grace & Diggs’ work, the sets at Pink Roses, Wild Hearts were created using recycled materials repurposed into gorgeous florals for Valentine’s backdrops.
Linda Mullen describes the experience, “[It is] an acknowledgment of the complexities of love. It will be made of elements symbolic of traditional Valentine’s Days along with darker, wilder elements that provide the antithesis of the commercialized experience. These two extremes will be connected in an immersive walk-through experience which symbolizes that nothing exists in a vacuum.”
The exhibition features selfie stations, guided workshops, and even opportunities to plan professional photoshoots in the space, all surrounded by Grace & Diggs‘ upcycled artwork. The backdrops offer nods to love in all its forms with one set full of light colors and traditional Valentine’s Day designs, a second draped in botanicals and darker shades inspired by a slightly wilder romance, and a third showcasing a series of vines (or perhaps, veins) to symbolize the sweet and wild connections to love.
Visitors can also opt to participate in a workshop for all ages to create a Shaggy Heart Wall Hanging during a two-hour session. Workshops include full access to the exhibition and photo stations as well as 100% recycled materials and guided techniques to create your own piece of art.

The event is following local mandates by the City of Salem requiring masks to be worn indoors and proof of vaccination upon arrival at Old Town Hall. Masks must be worn to enter Old Town Hall and during workshops, but can be removed for photos at exhibition stations.
