Salem Celebrates Valentine’s Day

Salem, Massachusetts is full of love during the month of February. The month kicks off with the Salem’s So Sweet Festival on Friday, February 9th with the annual kick-off event. Now in its 22nd year, the signature elements of the festival include a Friday night kickoff party, 25+ ice sculptures sprinkled around the downtown, two nights of illuminated sculptures, a “Chocolate Hearts” game with prizes, live music, and sweet specials and promotions at local shops and restaurants throughout the city. It is Salem’s sweetest time of year!

Following the kickoff event on the 10th and 11th of February will be the much-beloved Chocolates Heart Challenge! Many local businesses will offer their own chocolate and love-inspired specials for the duration of Salem’s So Sweet to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Visitors can also play
the “Chocolate Hearts Challenge” by snapping pictures of special Salem’s So Sweet signage at participating businesses to be entered for prizes. A purchase by the customer is not required but is highly encouraged. A full list of participating businesses and information about how to play will be available on the website closer to the event.

The love doesn’t stop their after the Salem’s So Sweet festival concludes on the 11th of February. Salem, MA will be bustling with loving events all month long with beer tastings, culinary treats, interactive activities, and so much more. Keep reading to see a lust of upcoming events!

Anti Valentine’s Tours with the Salem Trolley and Salem Night Tour, February 2 – 14 

The most exciting way to spend the “worst” holiday is with the Salem Night Tour. With The Anti-Valentine’s Tour guests can bring a Valentine, friends, or go solo! In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, tours will dive into surprisingly scandalous and often murderous dark stories of love gone wrong throughout Salem’s past. Tours on the trolley include hot chocolate, goodie bags, black roses, and more! This annual events sells out quickly and space is limited!

Valentine Masquerade Ball at Colonial Hall, February 10, 7 pm – 11 pm 

The 2nd Annual “Love is in the Air” Valentine Masquerade Ball is the hottest party in Salem. Live music from the band Whiskey Tango will keep the dance floor rocking! To add to the fun, the event includes a Photo Booth for an awesome keepsake, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a dessert station. Buy your tickets early, availability is limited.

Chocolate & Beer Pairing at East Regiment Beer Co.February 10, 1 pm to 2:30 pm

Chocolates are a classic Valentine’s Day gift. What better gift to give than an experience? During this tasting, learn about different styles of beer as well as different types of chocolate and why they go so well together! Each beer will be paired with a specific chocolate to bring out different notes in each other. Featuring chocolates from Harbor Sweets, the tasting guests will sample four chocolates and beers. Celebrating 50 years of chocolate making, Harbor Sweets has been a staple in Salem with handmade chocolates using the finest local ingredients.  $20 Admission

Seollal / Lunar New Year: Beer and Sweets Tasting at Couch Dog Brewing Co., February 10, 1 pm

Come join us on Seollal (Lunar New Year) February 10 for a special beer and baked goods tasting. Three Korean-inspired desserts will be paired with a flight of three unique craft beers for a self-guided tasting – a perfect way to celebrate the Lunar New Year and Salem’s So Sweet festival!

Feel the love this February at Salem’s So Sweet Festival with the Good Witch of Salem! Join us for a magical family-friendly party at the Historic Hawthorne Hotel in Downtown Salem. Step into the enchanting Grand Ballroom, where elegance and charm await. Tea Party guests Indulge in a delicious spread of tea sandwiches, fresh fruits, muffins, pastries, sweet treats, and more! Children enjoy delightful activities like stuffing their own (panda) bears, brewing love potions, and crafting greeting cards. It’s a celebration of love, joy, and sweetness for the whole family!

Valentine’s Card Making Party at East Regiment Beer Co., February 11, 1 pm – 4 pm

Join us for a Valentine’s Card Making Party! Make a card for your loved one, parent, grandparent, or BFF. Guests of all ages and all creativity levels are welcome. Instruction and assistance will be provided by a local stationary artist. We supply all of the materials including colored paper, pipe cleaners, glitter, glue, and more. Stop in any time during the party to get creative and leave the mess behind.
