Salem Kids Tours returns for the 2026 season with daily tours at 1 pm designed especially for families with children ages six and up. These interactive tours offer an accessible introduction to Salem’s history, blending storytelling with just the right amount of spooky fun.

For those drawn to the sea, Salem Kids Tours is also offering a special “Salem Pirates, Ghost Ships & Sea Legends” tour on April 24 and 25. This 75-minute experience explores tales of privateers, ghost ships, and Salem’s maritime past, bringing the city’s waterfront history to life for younger audiences and their families.

That spirit of adventure continues throughout the week at Real Pirates Salem, where costumed character treasure hunts on April 19 and 26 invite kids to engage with pirate guides while exploring authentic artifacts from the Whydah shipwreck. Seasonal attractions including the New England Pirate Museum, Witch Dungeon Museum, and Witch History Museum also reopen for April vacation, offering immersive experiences that bring Salem’s past into focus.

On April 24, Salem’s Derby Street waterfront becomes the setting for Pirates! The Battle for Derby Street. This lively event transforms the area into a bustling scene of performances, storytelling, and interactive activities as rival captains John Turner and “Black Sam” Bellamy face off in a playful, crowd-driven spectacle designed for all ages.

Salem’s role in early American history is also part of the experience during April vacation week. Salem Historical Tours highlights the city’s connection to the American Revolution as part of the ongoing Rev250 commemoration, offering another layer of storytelling for families interested in the origins of the nation.

Salem offers plenty of opportunities for kids to get creative, with hands-on experiences that encourage imagination, self-expression, and a little bit of magic.

At Witch Pix, families can step into their own Salem story through immersive costume and photography experiences. Young visitors can choose from a selection of themed styles, like Graveyard Magic, Crystal Ball Witchery, 1692 Glamour, or Earth Witch, and work with staff to bring the scene to life. The quick, 20-minute session is designed to fit easily into a busy day of exploring, with a digital gallery of images available to download and share, creating a fun and memorable keepsake from their time in Salem. School Break Special: Kid Portraits at Witch Pix – offered April 18th – May 3rd – gives young visitors a fun Salem photo experience, with four witchy styles to choose from and a quick session full of imagination, play, and character.

At the Peabody Essex Museum, April vacation week includes special programming designed to connect art and nature. Creative Kids: Knowing Nature runs from April 20 through April 24 and invites students ages 11 to 13 to explore the natural world through art, writing, and multimedia projects inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and outdoor spaces. Younger visitors can also take part in a program focused on forest animals, where they will learn about wildlife adaptations and meet animals up close. Admission is always free for visitors under 16, making it an easy addition to your itinerary.

Wicked Good Books once again serves as a starting point for the North of Boston Book Trail Passport Challenge on April 25 and 26.
